Electrofuels · Seasonal storage

Sunlight in,
barrels out.

Vulcan Fuels converts intermittent renewable electricity into drop-in liquid hydrocarbons. Energy you can store for a season, ship in a tanker, and burn in engines that already exist.

Applications

One process,
limitless energy applications.

City lights blurred beyond a gap in a concrete structure.

Data center power

Stored in winter.
Powering you through summer.

Our Ultra Long Duration Energy Storage systems shape and firm renewable generation across seasons, banking it as liquid fuel when power is abundant and releasing it as firm, dispatchable megawatts when the load curve refuses to wait.

Transportation

Solar-made fuels.
Market-matched prices.

Built around low-cost off-grid solar, the Fuel Forge produces carbon-neutral jet, diesel and marine fuel at a landed cost that competes with the commodity barrel. Aviation and shipping decarbonize without waiting for a new fleet.

Where it runs
A single track of footprints crossing empty sand dunes.

Defense

Sovereign fuel.
Produced on site.

Paired with a portable small modular reactor, a containerized Fuel Forge makes diesel and jet fuel inside the wire. The unit moves by cargo aircraft, which turns a thousand-mile fuel convoy into a local utility.

The Vulcan cycle

Air, water, electricity.
Nothing else goes in.

  1. 01

    Capture

A sorbent contactor pulls carbon dioxide directly from ambient air. The capture stage runs hardest when power is cheapest, so the plant breathes with the grid.

  2. 02

    Split

Electrolysis divides water into hydrogen and oxygen. This is the step that consumes the renewable surplus that would otherwise be curtailed and thrown away.

  3. 03

    Synthesize

Hydrogen and captured carbon meet across our catalyst stack and reassemble into long-chain hydrocarbons at near-ambient pressure.

  4. 04

    Separate

A nanotube membrane sorts the product into gasoline, jet and diesel cuts. What comes out is chemically identical to fuel from a refinery, minus the well.

The carbon comes back out exactly where it came from.

Because every carbon atom in a Vulcan barrel was taken out of the atmosphere first, combustion returns it to the same place. The cycle closes. No reservoir, no well, no net addition.

Deployment

One technology platform,
no infrastructure prerequisites.

From central grid infrastructure to the most remote operating environment on the map.

Rail lines running straight across open country under a wide sky.

On grid

Firm power, 24 hours a day

Seasonal shaping and firming makes a renewable-heavy grid behave like a conventional one. Our systems supply spinning reserve and real rotating inertia, using familiar generators for peaking and baseload duty.

An empty road running straight into arid open country.

Off grid

Renewable electricity and fuel, anywhere

ULDES and Fuel Forge are built to run on intermittent input and need no interconnection. They work when the sun is up and the wind blows, bank the energy as liquid, and sit idle without complaint when it stops.

Backed by those shaping the future

Redefining the future of energy.

The world's energy system needs storage that lasts a season and fuels made from electricity. That is the whole company. We are building the plant that does both.
